Oldham Town Centre Metrolink….

Accessibility will be radically improved with the arrival of Metrolink through the heart of the town Centre.

Oldham Council are further enhancing the area with a £2.5 million scheme of public realm improvements along the route.

One element of this work is the introduction of a comprehensive wayfinding system. The £230,000 pedestrian and cycle signage scheme will see modern stainless steel fingerposts and ‘monoliths’ featuring town centre maps installed at key points along the metrolink route and across Oldham town centre.

Other improvement works will include:

•A new high-quality terraced seating area and a raised plaza at King Street.

•A pedestrian zone defined by York stone and granite-style kerbs around the Oldham Central stop creating a new arrival point with easy access to the town centre’s shopping and retail core.

•Paving and kerbing upgrades along the whole of Union Street with new planters also installed.

•Plans for ‘greening’ and public art installations along the route.KINGS_B_600dpi_1

This will open up a range of opportunities alongside developments such as a new headquarters on Union Street for First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO). Planning permission has now been granted for this high quality office development of up to 35,000 sq ft over three floors.
