Hotel group to launch super-budget hotel on Dale Street ….
EASYJET’s budget hotel group, easyHotel, have acquired Bradley House (aka ‘The Flatiron’ building) at the junction of Northern Quarter’s Dale Street and Newton Street. It is estimated that the purchase and future conversion of the building will cost easyHotel and it’s owner, easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, somewhere in the region of £6m.
The hotel group will convert the Grade II-listed building – built c. 1850 and used as both a shipping warehouse and hat factory in the late nineteeth century – into a 114-bedroom hotel. Should the group’s planning application be approved, the new hotel is due to open in summer 2016.
In April 2015, easyHotel announced their first hotel for the North West, having acquired a former office building on Castle Street in Liverpool for £3m. Chief executive, Simon Champion, said: “Following so soon after our recent success in securing premises to develop an easyHotel in Liverpool, we are delighted to be investing in another vibrant city. “Manchester has substantial international tourism, good economic growth potential, a large population and successful, internationally-renowned universities.
“We expect this new easyHotel to attract a variety of leisure and business customers looking for good quality accommodation at an affordable price and look forward to being a part of the city’s ongoing success.” easyHotel currently operate ten UK hotels; eight in London, one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow); alongside eleven international hotels in cities such as Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague and Dubai.
The group are currently in the process of planning 150 company-owned hotels worldwide, alongside franchises.
