Council defends its pothole response ….

COUNCIL chiefs have assured residents they are working to solve Oldham’s pothole menace ….

Failsworth resident Eric Smith says he has been sending continuous inquiries to Oldham Council about unfilled potholes on several roads in his area since December.

But Councillor Dave Hibbert said: “Response times vary depending upon the size, depth and location of the pothole and whether or not it is causing a danger to the public.

“Road safety is a priority and we have recently introduced our new highways safety inspection policy which strives to be better than best practice from around the country.

“We have to initially prioritise our gateways and corridors as these are the busiest routes into, around and out of the borough. We intend to extend this approach to other roads over time in a more cost-effective and high-quality model.”

Last year more than 4,500 potholes were filled in Oldham.
