Cheers To A Triple Win For Oldham ….

OLDHAM is the toast of the region when it comes to award-winning pubs.

The borough had more winners than any other town in the North-West and North Wales at the prestigious JW Lees Pub of the Year Awards.

Three hostelries — The Cross Keys Inn, Uppermill, The Horton Arms, Chadderton and the Railway Inn, Royton — all received accolades at a ceremony at the Alderley Edge Hotel where 120 pubs from across the North-West and North Wales were vying for top honours.

The recognition earned the town a glowing tribute from JW Lees managing director William Lees-Jones, who praised its pubs and its long association with the historic brewery, adding that he wanted to increase his Oldham pub portfolio.

JW Lees’ Beer Ambassador of the Year title is the second triumph for the ancient Cross Keys Inn, which also marked its 40th consecutive appearance in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide — one of only seven pubs in England to claim the accolade — two months ago.

The Cross Keys beat off competition from the Half Way House, Chorley, and the Tandle Hill Tavern to receive the award.

Tenant of the year went to Debra Tetlow and Alistair Wolf, of The Horton Arms.

Neil and Rita Jackson from The Railway Inn proudly accepted Community Pub of the Year.

Mr Lees-Jones said the brewery was proud of its Oldham heritage.

He said: “JW Lees has had a presence in Oldham for over 180 years and we are proud that our pubs in Oldham are the very best and winning awards.”
